Adult Stroke Technique Clinics
  
Do you need extra help on fixing your current technique?  Do you struggle with swimming the stroke correctly?  The Stroke Clinics listed below will help you correct your bad habits and enable you to swim with more confidence.  In each clinic, proper arm, leg, body position and turns will be addressed.  For those in competitive swimming, these clinics will give you the knowledge to know what is a legal stroke and what movements will cause you to become disqualified from a race.

YMCA Swim Team

Registration for the 2017-18 season is now closed.
 
    This program will continue to nurture existing competitive swimmers in addition to recruiting swimmers not already involved in competitive swimming. All participants are required to be members of the Christian County YMCA. Participants 8 & under should be able to swim 25 yards, freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly & backstroke without holding onto the lap lanes or wall.   Participants 9 & up should be able to swim 50 yards; freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly & backstroke without holding onto the lap lanes or wall.
 
13 & up:  4-5 pm
12 & under and new swimmers: 5-6 pm
 
September 2017 through March 2018
Must be a YMCA Member
YMCA Members can swim September for free to try out the program!
 
Rate: $210-one time fee or Bank Draft-$35 a month
 
   Swimmers can ride the YMCA bus for free.
No registrations will be taken after November 30, 2017.
 
 
 
Youth Swim Lessons
   The Youth YMCA Swim Lessons Program is divided into two divisions and six levels.  The first division is Swim Basics:  swimmers develop a high level of comfort in the water by practicing safe water habits, engaging in underwater exploration, and learning how to swim to safety and exit. Level included are: Level 1 Water Acclimation, Level 2 Water Movement and Level 3 Water Stamina.  The next division is Swim Strokes.  After mastering the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills and build stroke technique, developing skills that prevent chronic disease and foster a lifetime of physical activity.  Levels included are:  Level 4 Stroke Introduction, Level 5 Stroke Development and Level 6 Stroke Mechanics.

 

​Must have 5 Registered swimmers to run a class.

Wednesday, 4:15-5:00 pm

 Swim Team Prep
Spring Session Only
April 10 - May 26, 2017
      This program provides swimmers who want to improve their strokes and/or endurance the opportunity to receive instruction from our coaching staff.  In addition, this program gives those interested in swim team the chance to experience what is involved in competitive swimming.  Participants should be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle or backstroke without holding onto the wall or lane lines.

   ​Junior Lifeguard Class

     The Junior Lifeguarding Course is designed to build a foundation of knowledge, attitudes and skills for future lifeguards.  Participants are not required to master or perfectly execute skills.  They should learn techniques and build stamina during this program.  This course does not certify participants in First Aid, CPR, AED or Lifeguarding.

     Course Prerequisites:  Must swim 25 yd. Freestyle and Breaststroke, Tread water 1 minute, Float on back 30 seconds and submerge and swim 10 ft underwater.

Private Lessons/Parent-Child Classes

  Have you always wanted to learn to swim?  Or maybe you just want to swim better, with more confidence.  Maybe your family’s schedule just makes lessons difficult right now.  No matter the reason, the age, the skill or the person, the time is always right to learn to swim!

  Parent/Child Swim Lessons
       The Swim Starters program starts with Level 1A - Water Discovery. It introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatic environment.  Level 1B - Water Exploration, Focuses on exploring body postions, blowing bubbles and fundamental safety and aquatic skills.

Distance Swim & Aqua Walk

Lap Swim and Distance Walk Program 
      This is an ongoing program that gives recognition for a member’s accumulated swim mileage swam in the lap pool and/or walked around our River Walk. A Swim Achievement Board displays members who have achieved 250 miles and up.

Water in Motion

      The class is the newest aqua exercise workout that provides a low impact, high energy challenge for participants of all ages, skill and fitness levels.  Jump in and make a splash with this dynamic cardiovascular workout that tones and tapers the entire body. With land equivalent intensity, fantastic sing-along quality music, and dynamic instructors, enjoy the pure fun of this 55 minute water extravaganza. Aqua-phones will forever become aqua-fans when they “Catch the Wave”!
